I first came into contact with a bull terrier when I was 12 years old while delivering newspapers to a family who owned a bitch. I then spent the next 5 years persuading my parents that they should purchase one. Eventually they became hooked on the idea too, so in 1981 I got what I wanted. My mother is my partner in breeding bull terriers to this day.

Our first bull terrier was a Brobar Honky daughter called Pete’s Pip of Sonspar and she became our foundation bitch. After listening to lots of advice and doing our own homework we decided to mate her to a beautiful big dog called Brobar Troubleshooter. This is when we met and became close friends with Arthur and Joyce Miller of the Brobar kennels. I spent as much time as I could with them discussing the breed and helping out with their dogs and I soon gained a deeper knowledge of the breed. The mating of Pete’s Pip to Troubleshooter gave us 10 puppies and we decided to keep a dog who we named Martons Marauder. He had reasonable success in the show ring but it was at stud where he proved his worth winning the stud dog trophy for 1987 as sire of Ch.Bodyline of Brobar the winner of the Ormandy Jug for bitches in 1984.

Marauder was then mated to Brobar Hot Pot of Mereigis the litter sister to Brobar Silver Satin and the dam of the Ghabar dogs. From this mating came Ch. Brobar Joker of Emred who was the runner-up in the Regent Trophy in 1987 and the runner-up in the Ormandy Jug  for dogs two years running in 1987 and 1988. Joker was then exported to Australia where he had success at stud

Marauder was also the grandsire of Am.Ch.Emred Top Gun of Brobar ROM. who was exported to America and he also won the stud dog trophy for two years running in 1991 and 1992.  He is behind many of the top American dogs today

Then came a 5 year break from showing although we still kept our breeding programme going using dogs mainly from the Ghabar and Aricon kennels. These lines also had many great Brobar dogs behind them.

In 1994, Turkshead All Gold of Emred, a granddaughter of Joker’s litter sister was mated to Ch.Maxdon Hustler of Tiapan. He was also predominantly Ghabar and Aricon lines and he had won the Ormandy Jug in 1993. From this mating came Emred Domino Dancer (Summer Queen Brood Bitch Winner 1999)

We mated Emred Domino Dancer to Radclyffe Gophrit of Dollygroves. He was line bred back to Ch. Ghabar Flagship and from this mating came Ch. Emred Devils Chance.  Devils Chance was the winner of the Ormandy Jug in 1999 and runner-up in the Regent Trophy the same year.

Emred Rising Sun.

Ch. Emred Devils Chance also made his mark at stud and produced Emred Rising Sun. Rising Sun was invited to compete in the major trophies before being exported to America where he enjoyed major success in the show ring. Ultimately he became the top winning white dog in 2004. Devils Chance is also the sire of Ch. Fourheatons Grandopera Persiflage the runner-up in the Ormandy Jug in 2002 and the winner of the Sandawana Trophy in 2003 and Ch.Penbrays Play To The Devil the winner of  the Ormandy Jug for dogs also in 2003

Devils Chance is fully health tested for heart kidney and BAER hearing and so was available for the Minature Bull Terrier interbreeding program. He is the sire to the top winning mini dog Ch. Badlesmere Bluebeard.

The next in the line is a Devils Chance son, Ch. Bilston Blackjack of Emred who won the Coloured Club’s Romany Trophy for top coloured in 2003. Subsequently he was invited to compete in all three major trophies for 2004. He gained his title in 2005 winning the terrier group at Southern Counties Championship Show with 900 terriers entered on the day. Blackjack then went on to win the Sandawana Trophy for the best coloured in 2005.

We then decided to go even closer into our line. Emred Sweet Pickle who was the result of a half brother/sister mating to Ch. Emred Devil’s Chance was mated back to Devils Chance. This mating produced Ch. Emred Devils Essence. Essence won 6 CC’s at only 6 shows, plus group 4 at her first show.   At the major Trophies for 2006 she won the REGENT  TROPHY and ORMANDY JUG for Bitches. This was especially pleasing as we had now won all 4 Major Trophies! Emred Sweet Pickle also won our second Summer Queen Brood Bitch Trophy in this year. We also won the Bull Terrier Clubs Raymond Oppenhiemer Top Breeder of the Year award.
For a few years prior to this we had been looking to inject some fresh blood into our line. We used stud dogs that we had admired but we did not get the results we had hoped for. In 2006 we mated Blackjack’s litter sister, Devils Diva of Emred to Tulsadoom Isakabuli. From this litter came Ch. Emred Huntsman and to date he has won 5 CC’s and 8 Res CC’s in 2008. Huntsman also did really well at Group level this year winning the Terrier Group 1 at Driffield,  going Group 2 at East of England and then going Group 3 at Midland Counties. At the Bull Terrier Club Major Trophies for 2008 Huntsman made a clean sweep winning the ORMANDY JUG for Dogs, the REGENT TROPHY and the CHARLIE GIRL CUP for best movement. This success also meant that we won our third Summer Queen Brood Bitch Trophy with Devils Diva of Emred.

We also won the Bull Terrier Club’s Raymond Oppenheimer Top Breeder of the Year award for the second time in three years. A week later Huntsman won his 6th.CC along with Best of Breed at Crufts 2009. He was shortlisted in the Terrier Group making it  through to the final eight from an entry of over 2400 terriers on the day.

Throughout our breeding programme we have consistently used dogs with good heads perfect mouths and correct construction. We always prioritise on correct shoulder placement as we believe that the shoulders are the point of balance in a dog.

A true Bull Terrier temperament is also very important to us.
